Story
Mercy Refugees House (http://mercyrefugeeshouse.org) is a non-profit organization, registered in the United States, to help refugees. On September 25th, as a volunteer staff and the president of the organization, I arrived at the refugee camps, along with a team of journalists, photographers, and activists, outside Cox's Bazar. We drove for over an hour, and walked for another hour, to witness for ourselves the living situation of the refugees in the makeshift camps. We met both Muslims and Hindu refugees and documented various reports, interviews, and details of torture, rape, and genocide committed by Myanmar's military regime. The refugees all reported similar stories that many masked men tortured them, raped them and burned their houses, while the military was watching or facilitating their crimes. The living situation at the camps is appalling; some dig the ground to find water, some stay in the lines for over 8-9 hours to get some food, if they are lucky. Right now, they live under horrible conditions under the scorching sun or in the pouring rain. We plan to visit the camp again soon to help and distribute donations that the refugees need to cope with the genocide committed by the Myanmar government. The Bangladeshi people and government have been doing their best and are overwhelmed with the flood of refugees. We saw the Bangladeshi army helping and distributing food, we saw Bangladeshi people coming from all over the country to help them, we also saw people from UK, US, and other countries helping them as much as they could. The sheer number of refugees makes the distribution and managing of the help very challenging. Your financial help, involvement, and activism to pursue others and governments to contribute and force the Myanmar regime to stop the genocide, are therefore urgently needed. Our organization has donated $150,000 to the Rohingya refugees, but that's a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed now. We need more contributions from people like you! If you can contribute as much as $100 a month, you could save one person from going hungry for one month. Or, you can get a group of friends together and each donate $20. Your generosity would be so much appreciated. The money will go towards purchasing and supporting families with:- Food
- Medicine
- Doctors/Psychologists
- Clothing
- Equipment
- Hygiene & Sanitary Conditions
- Education
- Water Purifiers etc.
